Science was once Magic
Science was once Magic….
Alchemy and astrology were man’s first sciences that led to modern chemistry and astronomy. Alchemy focused on transforming matter, mainly trying to turn base metals into gold. In 1404, England's King Henry IV passed the Act Against Multiplication, restricting practices deemed magical or supernatural. Basically, the Church was afraid that Alchemy was the devil’s work, and it could completely topple the economy. I mean if the average person could create gold. Yeah, major problem.
Let’s talk about Galileo, he was an Italian astronomer, physicist, and mathematician, who played a major role in the Scientific revolution. He is often referred to as “the father of modern science” and was of course Catholic. His telescope revealed the moon's craters and mountains, Jupiter's moons, and that Earth orbits the sun, contrary to Church beliefs. In 1616, accused of heresy, Galileo was sentenced to house arrest for the entirety of his life. Despite blindness in his final years and tight supervision by the Church, he wrote *Discourses and Mathematical Demonstrations Relating to Two New Sciences*, which laid the foundation for modern physics.
Which brings us to Albert Einstein, who later said his theory of quantum entanglement was “spooky action at a distance”.
Similar to modern science, energy healing or spiritual healing has faced its fair share of restrictions and suppression throughout history. Numerous Indigenous cultures’ practices were deemed illegal in the United States until the enactment of the American Indian Religious Freedom Act in 1978.
In Europe and the United States, midwives and other healers were often deemed illegal. Yoga was frequently viewed as "black magic" or "voodoo," with poses considered sexually suggestive rather than spiritual. During British rule in India, many spiritual practices were suppressed or banned, prompting people to practice them in secret.
Also, I do feel it is important to define yoga here, so you can understand what was considered “black magic”. Yoga or Yogic Science and Philosophy, examined the interconnectedness between body, mind, and spirit to achieve self-realization and inner peace.
See in the grand scheme of things Science and magic are not that far apart.
History is important, it will repeat itself as part of the karmic cycle, giving each new generation its opportunity to confront the imbalance and to heal itself. We need both science and spiritualism.
To be honest, Energy Healing is just a future Science. One we may not fully understand right now and may considered to be magic, but it’s just energy. And the science of energy is called physics.
